In addition to bisphenols, phthalates, alkylphenol ethoxylates and PFAS, the Chemical Substitution website includes two new groups of compounds: persistent, mobile and toxic (PMT) and very persistent and very mobile (vPvM).
PMT and vPvM substances group chemical compounds together on the basis of intrinsic properties that favour their spread and concentration in the environment. This could lead, if no preventive or remedial measures are taken, to levels in the environment that could cause hazardous effects to humans and/or the environment.
Given the large number of PMT/ and vPvM substances, the spectrum of uses of these compounds is very broad, including, for example, use as monomers (resins, etc.), solvents, synthesis intermediates, additives (fuels, etc.) and catalysts.
The substitution of PMT/vPvM substances is still an emerging subject. In connection with the European research project Promisces, the purpose of this information relay will be to make available all the information likely to contribute to the early prevention of environmental contamination by these substances.
